I think I read somewhere his race trucks were Toyota v8s in the later years. One of his olf race trucks was rebuilt and restored by his original build team. About 500k. It was posted at race-dezert.com

Yessir, a 3VZ-E it be. And an underestimated 325HP one at that.

Basically the only stock parts are the short block.

Wow that was a cool video. The thing that impressed me was during the Lexus v8 dyno they pushed it past 8k rpms

Awesome video. Too bad they couldn't continue. I love the "Formula 1 of off road racing" description. That's exactly what it sounded like to me with the level of engineering that went in to beating all those V8s with just a little 3vz!
