I think it depends on the seats the truck originally came with. Both my '87 and '88 trucks with bench seats did not come with anything like that, but my '82 ranch truck with bucket seats had a carpet panel on the back wall of the cab. They are all standard cab trucks. Those panels seem to be more common in extended cab trucks.
I have buckets but vinyl floor so i the the previous owner installed the bucket seats. Guess its time to head to the junk yards and take a look for one
I found a few at the yard that were in 2nd Gen pickups...don't recall whether they were extra cab or not. They are a near perfect fit in my 92' 3rd Gen. Had some extra holes where the spare tire tools were held, and doesn't have the cutout for the tire jack on the 3rd Gen. Easy to cover the holes with speaker box carpet, and just as easy to cut the hole needed for my spare tire jack.
The plastic panel is very sturdy, I added mole pouches, you can get very creative without having to drill into the back of the cab.
