I just installed my inclinometer about a month ago. I have a 1989 4Runner SR5, first gen.

As far as I could tell, there is no factory wire harness location. I think, and I could not confirm this with anyone, that what they did was plug it into the back of the instrument cluster and pick up the power for the lights there. There is an extra "bulb" hole in the back of the cluster on the right side that would provide power from the dimmer.

I could not find a mating plug for that, so I wired it into the back of the dimmer on the bottom of left side of the steering wheel. If you have a mulitmeter is is really easy to figure out which wires to hook it into. I did not cut any wires, I did the crimp on splitters that cut through the insulationso that I could remove them later if I do get a factory plug.

Can anyone confirm that the factory plug location for the Inclinometer was the back of the instrument cluster?

there is no factory plug. I too wired mine into the instrument lights and rheostat (dimmer)

just find a power source, 12v in the dash, wire it in and ground it to rheostat. Find the ground for the climate control backlight.

There is indeed factory wiring, Toyota makes a subharness that plugs between the temp control backlight, and the inclinometer.

I would love to swap out all the gauge lights in my truck , to go dark blue, like Ive had in all my vw's.

Any good write ups on how to do this? and what size of bulbs do you need?

dunno about any writeups but to replace the bulbs is easy. so easy i never payed attention to what bulbs are actually used. The hard part is finding tinted bulbs (maybe the internet) .. i got lucky and got green at Autozone. they had like yellow and red to i think

just common incandescent bulbs. It takes less than a minute to get to the climate control bulb and maybe a few minutes for me to pull the cluster out.

you should just dig in and see for yourself. its really easy
