there is probably corresponding wear on the valve seat as well?? were the valve seats replaced when the work was originally done?

take the bare head into the machine shop, have 'em touch up the seats.

when the head comes back, lap each of the valves in... that allows you to check where the wear pattern is.

also, measure the side-to-side play of the valve in the valve guide... there should be a spec for it in the fsm.

you don't want too much play there.

 

Yes, the machine shop that originally did them is fixing it for me. I waited for him to check the seats and make sure they were gonna be fine before i ordered the OEM valves. Otherwise i would have got another set of heads. would have been cheaper than all new valve seats.

 

they would probably just touch up each seat with a specialized seat grinder, that cuts the same bare minimum of material off of each seat... it makes the mating surface of the seat crisp and clean, with the same angles that are on the valve mating surface.

you'll be able to see that junction if you lap the valve to the seat.

such a bizarre problem... if the guides have excessive wear, why is it only the intake valves that are having an issue.

 

Well, i received one intake valve today. Called them up and the other 5 are still sitting on there shelf with my name on them. You just have to love that! At least they are overnighting them to me.

 

Hm sounds like a spring issue to me...or crap valves...But springs having too much tensile strength generally beat the seats to death not the valve

 

Well i got it all back together and its running fine again. Not real sure what the deal was. It sure seems like my heads are getting really hot. Not sure how normal that is. With my electric fan on the hottest ive seen the Radiator temp was 155 at the cap. I believe my fan comes on at 165 at the inlet. And the outlet tube at the idler seems way hot. Had the truck for 7 years but never payed much attention to how hot any of that used to get. Electric fan was after the rebuild. Might add the LCE headers, down pipe, and intake were added then also.
