cost me 110 a month in utah and here in washington its 350 just for liability.
but trev theres ways around that, explain to your agent that its an off roader, you will only be driving it a few miles on certain weekends to get to the wheelin spot. i did that with one of my other trucks and rates went from 300 to 45 a month

matt alluded to one aspect that hasnt been touched upon, that being demographics. your rates are a combination of your age, driving record, vehicle, distance traveled (work/school) and geographic location. more densely populated areas are statistically higher in claims than less populated areas.
being older and/or married usually qualifies you for a discount, not always though. 4x4's are more expensive for a couple reasons: 1) they are more expensive to repair and 2) there are more of them on the road. ergo, more likely to be involved in some sort of claim. think risk management on the part of the insurance companies. then, lets remember a few years back when they tried to justify their exorbitant rates only to reveal later in the year the billions in profits they made. oops, we would like to clarify that, those numbers are spread over the industry so, really we didnt make that much!
looks like im in the old codgers club too, who's got the geritol?

On old, rusty cars: buy liability (whatever the broker recommends), personal injury (not sure what its called in the states) and forget about insurance on the vehicle. If you bank the money you'd save from not buying full coverage, low deductible, and be prepared to do some work yourself, you'll be way ahead in the long run.

I'm 24 my insurance for my 87runner is $75 a month for liabilitly only. My 90 yj is like $150 full coverage. My 06 susuki boulevard cruiser was double the note of the bike each month in my name... I had to put it in my dads name..so its like $40 a month full coverage. I have a clean record too...

Why put the full coverage on the Jeep, its probably worth a lot less than the Toyota?Originally Posted by meswoleshane

Wait is the 86 drivable?
If it isn't then why the hell do you have insurance on it? I haven had insurance on mine cuz I efed up the engine.
But I did pay $65/month for liability on my '95. I was 16 when I got that rate. BTW, insurance for under 25 is better on your parents policy BUT if you got into an accident you need to go to your own policy. Also, if the title is in your name, the policy should be too, but you could exclude that, especially if your on good terms with your agent.

I feel like you guys are getting a deal. I got quoted $5100 for 6 months through Progressive for my 88 Camaro when I turned 18. Car is still off the road. There's no way I can afford that crap. =/

It's all 'bout location, location, location, along with age, and then driving record, then finally, type of vehicle.
