installing new oil pump

This may be a stupid question but I haven't been able to find the answer anywhere. I'm installing a remanned 3VZE in my 94 runner. The engine came with an oil pump but I have to install it. Is it safe to assume that the pump gears have already been packed and all I need to do is install the pump? I started to remove the gear cover but the philips head screws seem to have been installed with tread lock and I'm not sure I can get them out w/o tearing up the slots.

I wouldn't assume anything. I'd at least contact them and ask.

I don't pull them apart. I pour some hiltons, stp, motorhoney,....some thick lube supplement into the opening and turn the pump to work it into the teeth. Gives you max suction when you crank the engine up.

I know the 22re pump I bought from Ted a few years back was not pre-packed. The one I bought from DOA recently (cost about 3x as much for a high-vol deal) was packed...

I'd pack it for sure....

Packed with what?

I always use vaseline...

Works like a charm and the first oil change comes 10 minutes after I start it anyway.
