Installing new a/c system
Okay, so I just ordered a new ac compressor, compressor, drier, evaporator and expansion valve. I'm going all in on my 4runner as I want to keep it forever! Is there a good thread that can show me how to do this? Do I need to convert to 134a right of the bat? I know that that is hthe most widely used refrigerant now... Also, how much ester oil do I put in the compressor and drier? And how much refrigerant do I charge it up with? Thanks for the help!

I would def do the upgrade to r134a. It's just fittings to upgrade .
Make sure your dryer is brand new though if anything

Most of the stuff you need has been discontinued from Toyota, I was there last week trying to the same the problem is the parts they do have may be contaminated with radiation so they won't send it so they told me, however they will give you a print out of a exploded view and the part numbers which you type in on the net and they all pop up on eBay etc. advance auto quoted me $440.00 for every thing yesterday but I still have my bracket for the compressor and everything in side the truck is still there.all and all it's plug and play for the most part.

Yeah I ordered a new compressor, drier and expansion valve from discountacparts.com, it came in yesterday and it is a denso compressor which is what originally came from the 4Rrunner. I am just waiting on the evaporator and condensor from autopartswarehouse.com (direct fit OEM parts). The condensor is from Silla, I have never heard or tried any of these products but it came with a lifetime warranty and was by far the least expensive so I am giving it a try. All I need now are new hoses which I will buy at Oreilly next week.

Vacuum pump and a good set of gauges for R134a
It also helps to have a leak detector of some sort when you find the new system does not pull vacuum due to a leak someplace.
It might be easier to just get it charged once you have all the parts installed.
