Installed new climate control lever assembly.

Just installed new Toyota climate control lever assembly in my 86 Toyota 2WD truck. The original OEM unit heater valve lever had a plastic pivot that broke from that cable seizing up. Glad to see the new assembly fixed that with a metal pivot post. Much stronger pivot.

Tried to remove the old assembly without removing the dash, but could not get it through any of the center console openings. So, I removed most the dash. Probably removed more than needed but didn't know what parts bolted to the body. Glad I did as the air duct joining to the center vent diverter box was lose and had a decent gap. Closed the gap and sealed it with H.D. Gorilla tape. It's now has more vent air flow.

The new assembly is just the support framework and levers w/no cables. Had to remove the old cables and reuse them. Did install a new heater valve (blue) cable. The clips that held the old cables were a huge pain to release. Found releasing one prong (spring clip style) all the way pulling it out then the other side came out easier. Sadly, the new assembly had these same 2 prong spring clips pre-installed, so needed to remove them without damaging the assembly. The heater valve lever had a different cable connection. It had a post instead of a hole in the lever. Looped that wire end around it and it works fine .

Took 2 days to complete in 105 heat index with many breaks, but feels good to have all the levers working as intended. Only lost one fastener and that was the dash pad left side nut.

Just info on a repair .

The 1st cable is the blue heater valve cable. My OEM was seized and could not free it up. Bought the 2nd cable (55906-89110) just is case. It wasn't needed and it was shorter, so did not use it where ever it was suppose to go. The new assembly connects the heater valve blue cable to frame different than my 86 OEM unit. The cable slides through an hole in the framework and attaches to that new post on the lever. The clip holds the blue cable and is unique to this new assembly. I lucked out ordering it as it was needed.

Cost are in order: $11.23, $10.32, $1.65, $78.83.

Other dealer sites have these items and prices are competitive. Surprised it took 5 days from order to delivery (Atlanta to Norfolk).
