Injector wiring issues

I'm doing valve cover gaskets on my 3.0 and am having the injectors serviced while I'm in digging around. I've had a few issues related to injector wiring and wonder what other 3.0wners have done...

Issue one

Several of the locking tabs on the harness side of the injector connectors broke from age and too much heat exposure. No big deal - I figure a zip tie will suffice.


Issue two

More concerning to me is the protective plastic "boxes" that encase the injector harness as it runs along the top of the velve covers. Again, from 20 years of high heat these boxes have broken down (the passenger side actually turned to dust!). I'm sure that this dissinegration is common. What has anybody else done to replace these???


Not to rob my own thread but I found Rice Chex (and tastey ones I might add) on my intake manifold. I started wondering...what other fun surprises people have found on their intake manifolds?

Go to autozone and get some wire loom or some call flex conduit and use that, thats what I used and youre right, zip ties will hold the conectors on and everything else together. Mines lasted for over a year.......regards...Rick

Yours lasted a year and then gave up or lasted a year and is still going?

Issue 1: Zip ties are what I used; it's either that or get a new wiring harness for @ $500.

Issue 2: I just wrapped my wiring with an old towel, then wrapped it in black electrical tape; seems to be holding up fine. I used short pieces of #12 gauge copper wire to tie it down to the metal brackets.

I found hickory nuts and some of those styrofoam peanuts under my intake manifold...apparently the mice were busy...

I went with the conduit on the harness to replace the plastic enclosures that turned to dust. By conduit, I refere to the ribbed plastic tubes with a slit in one side to get the wires in. I used various sizes to cover the main harness and the offshoots from the harness.

I found a quarter sitting on my intake manifold. A tip from the PO. Why was that there? No idea.
