The infamous 22RE starter problem

Hey all,

Just did some research on "Starter problems." Most I've read was to replace the starter, but due to recent events, I'm just trying to spend little to no money right now, UNLESS it's must. Eventually it will lead to spending money, just hoping for the best.

So I installed the new starter about little over a month ago, bought the starter from O'Reilly's, the truck started up just fine, no noise, except for that little buzzing sound after it spins (I'm assuming). Til about less than a week ago, when I start up the Toy, it has an odd grinding sound, nothing like that sound when you start your truck after it's running already. (Usually when a motor is really quiet, some people tend to forget their truck is running. Lol, guilty of all charges) Anyway, it sounds like those little sparkle sticks they use for kids during 4th of July or New Years eve. This sound is right on the spot when cranking over to start up the truck.

There aren't any driveabilty issues, everything seems to be running fine. Just that particular start up noise. I've read that adding shims to the starter to pull it out a little bit, but that's all I've read besides replacing the brand.

1993 Toyota Xcab Deluxe 22RE
5spd/2WD

New starter, fairly rebuilt motor (27K miles on top of the rebuild)

Any help or suggestions would be of great help! Thanks.

Sounds like a loose power cable to your starter, check to make sure the connections are tight and clean and check to see if there was any arcing around where the leads connect.
