IFS upgrade
Hello Yotatech
i got an old nissan 240 for driving to work. so the runner is in the garage, i'm just replaceing IFS stuff so this thing will last me a good amount of time with summer trips comeing up. i've replaced bearing, rotor's, brake pads, guide pins, caliper bolts, and caliper seals. got a new rancho steering stableizer. here is where i need some yotatech advice. the idler arm is on the passanger side if i'm right? well when the truck is on jack stands and when i shake the wheel, the idler arm jumps up and down, so i think there is a cheep rebuilt kit for that. (thanks roger brown) tie rods and those joints are my concern. is there anyway to beef them up???? i want to replace the main tie rod joints, i dont know what it's called but it's the big tie rod in the center of the front end? please dont pound on me for spelling. thanks yotatech

Same year as mine. The Tie rods you are referring to are the "inner" tie rods. There are outer tie rods by the wheels. Have you gotten your recall letter from Toyota for the Relay Rod replacement? If not then look for it and take it in for the work. As far as your Idler arm, I know they make a rebuild kit and a beefier one but I'm not sure which company offers it.

Heres a link to a write up on Idler arm rebuilds. It's easy and will run you 12-15 bucks.
http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/maintenance/idler/
Heres a link to Downey's idler arm gusset. I guess they don't post prices anymore but I think I gave about $50 for it a year or so ago.
http://www.downeyoff-road.com/Suspen...ents/index.htm
Also search around on this subject. A bunch of us did front end work within the past year and someone found a complete set of front end stuff on e bay, (I think the seller was arm-can) at a very good price and was happy with the quality of the product when he got it.

An extremely rigid articulating joint, commonly known as a ""spherical rod-end,"" used in any precision linkage. Heim joints are often used in the suspension links of race cars because they locate wheels very precisely

For future reference, the seller's name is arm_cam, you can find the item by searching ebay for the following text (he reuses the same title over and again):
Ball Joint TIE ROD END Idler Pitman Arm, Toyota 4RUNNER
It appears that he also sells the same kit for other vehicles...
