I know they say OEM on ball joints for sure here....something like an idler arm....I'd try an oem one.

Stay away from these two idler arms(bushings not serviceable):
Napa ATM(Altrom)1032403(.703" shaft)
RAYBESTOS 4501091B(.703" shaft)

There's also two different OEM/stock Idler Arms for 86-95 4WDs, the 86-88(18mm/.708" shaft), and the 89-95(19.5mm/.767" shaft). Obviously you want the 89-95 if you're going to replace yours with a stock unit. But both stock versions have bushings that are readily available from multiple sources if they need replaced. Most, but not all, aftermarket idler arms have 19.5mm/.767" shafts and accept stock 89-95 idler arm bushings.

The OEM looking one's? They get them as a core, put their sub $5 plastic bushings in them and sell them back to ppl that should have kept them for $50.

I guess you could take it back and get another one when they do wear out. Depends on what they mean by "Limited Lifetime Warranty" I suppose. But, if you get lucky and the shaft measures 18mm or 19.5mm you can use stock bushings.

Just for added commentary.........

I've had a Moog on my '86 4rnr for several years now. Most on road driving, but I live offroad out in the country with marginally maintained road. It's holding up well. Just keep it greased.

 

Replaced mine for $20 from Auto Zone. Stock/OEM version of course. took all of 10 minutes.

Hippy: Yeah, I thought about the ones known for being compatible with the brass bushings, but then I thought, heck, with Kragen being literally 5 minutes away, just throw a new one on. I can do the swap in ~15 min., so what the heck...

Besides, my offroading is fire roads and sand (not 4x4). Probably easier on it than most on this forum.

 

Do yourself a favor and throw that idler arm in the trash. Go back to a stock one or a '555' brand from your local auto parts place. Those moog arms suck because they dont have two areas of support, just one.

 

I believe that's what he's done.

BTW, what's with all this "555" talk lately? I feel like I should know what that means already. But I've not the foggiest idea.

What exactly is 555?

Another interesting note while I'm back on this subject. It's a bit curious to me that as soon as I recommended to avoid the RAYBESTOS 4501091B model, they stopped selling them on the site where I purchased one. I mean the very next day after I posted that comment I checked for them on RockAuto.com and they were GONE! And I can't seem to find them for sale anywhere now. Oh well, "good riddance to bad rubbish" I guess. Odd though. Do I really carry that much sway in the aftermarket parts world? Maybe I should bad-mouth a few other things I'd like to see disappear from the market?
