idler arm
this is probley a dumb question but i tried cross referencing things at a local auto parts store and you know how that goes. My yota pick up has a brand new idler arm on it and my 4runner one is now shot, are they interchangable? there both 3vze trucks, the pick up is an 89 and the runner is a 94, thanks

Yes and No.
Generally speaking the idler arms off all 4WD 86-95 pickups and 4Runners are the same. Specifically though there are minor differences, arm lengths and shaft diameters and the different size bushings for each size shaft(2 shaft sizes, 92-95 have idler arms with larger/stronger shafts, AFAIK)
The length of the arm is all that really "matters". So measure the length of each arm. The distance between the middle of the welded shaft on the one end and the middle of the tie-rod end part that connects to the center link on the other. Any difference between the two, unless it's less than say 1/4" or so, and it wouldn't be that great of an idea to trade them around.
It would probably work fine short-term if you "had" to but it would throw your steering geometry off slightly, and your toe-in alignment too. Which could lead to quickly worn steering parts(and tires if not realigned), theoretically.
