Idle for a modded 22re
I tried to set my idle around 7 or 800rpm. It was somewhat lumpy feeling, I started playing with the idel speed and it smoothes up around 950 or 1000. I want to get the best gas mileage possible, so I want to set my idle low.
Does it sound like my motor has an issue or is this normal for a 22re with:
2.25" pipe
hiflow cat
flowmaster 40
Thorley header
K&N filtercharger
Nology Wires
NGK Plugs
What is stock idle? What woudl be a reasonable setting?

Might want to check the TPS IDLe-E2 adjustment:
http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/TPS/index.shtml
If off that can lead to a rough idle. Also, recheck the base timing.
I do find I need to run my idle up in the 850-900 range to have it run smooth on my '85. It did idle smoother when it was stock, but I suspect the cam I have needs a little more RPM to smooth out. It'll idle slower but it is rougher.

22REs just don't Idle that smooth to begin with. about 900 seems to help as does making sure the timing is right. One other thing that helps is to bump the spark plug gap up to about .032"

Checked the timing, that is all good. The plug gap is bumped up.01 over to utilize the extra power that the wires deliver.
I was toying with the idle adjustment screw? It's the one on the TB that has a locknut once depth is adjusted. I was going back and forth adjusting that and the air screw on the TB. The smoothest I coudl get was around 950-1000.
Does the tps need to be adjusted after messing with those? That could be my problem right there. I am going to check the IDL-E2 adjustments when I get a day off.

The throttle stop screw only needs to be set once. I think the factory spec is to let the throttle plate close, turn the screw in to contact the throttle linkage and turn it in a further 1/4 turn then tighten the lock nut. And yes, that affects the TPS setting. Air screw does not affect the TPS.

I have an engnbldr cam as well and have to keep mine idled up as well to make her run right. Check your vacuum. The cam drops vacuum from stock 20-22 inches to about 15 inches. This also affects the use of a/c at idle. As far as the performance trade off, I have no complaints.
