Ok, my truck will only stay alive with the idle adjusted real high, i dont have a tach so i cant get an exact number. but if we lower it it bogs down and dies. the timing is on, new plugs, compression was 130 all the way across, now could it be the EGR valve? we found some akward wires, does anyone have a wiring diagram or a link to one? thanks

I searched but didnt find anything relevant.

Just a thought. Did you check the TPS? Vacuum leaks? Here is a link to a FSM.

If this is on your truck my 1980 yota pickup did the same thing. All i needed was a new PCV valve and gasket. All fixed

Na, i sold that one, but i may replace it anyways. its on my 89 4runner 22re, 5spd.

The FSM has a section that shows you how to adjust. Go To:
Engine
Throttle Body
Tps will be at end of section.
Not saying that is problem but it is a simple check .
The FSM has a good troubleshooting section also.

What do you mean awkward wires? I just finished up a top end refresh on my 22RE, so I have a pretty good picture of what goes where in my head right now.

Someone cut off the plug to some wires on top of the engine so we dont know where to put them. ill find out the colors later, does anyone have a wiring diagram or a link to one? thanks

Check out Figure 23 on this page. Also, if you tell me the colors, I could let you know what they go to since I'm going to be working on my truck tonight.

red/black stripe
blue/white stripe
yellow/black stripe
They are all single wires and
They are in the same strand of wires as the emmisions

I believe i read that the red/black stripe, deals with the tps, however the tps plug in is un cut. here is a pic of the cut wires.








What does this sensor do? i think the yellow/blackstripe went to it...

130LBS sounds a little low. Should be ~175 on the 22R. Compession ratio is
10.?:1.

well the engine was still cold, i am pretty sure it will jump up soon, it was sitting for a while the piston rings werent sitting right so we used some tranny fluid through the spark plug hole to help and they jumped from 120 to 130 and 90-130.

If I can remeber to do so I'll look at a wiring diagram at work on Monday and get with you on those wires. The only diagrams I have available to me right now only go back to '90 and they do not show any wires those colors.
The single yellow/black wire could be to the oil pressure switch and the brown/black wire is likely to be a sensor ground.
