Idle Air control valve.
specs. 89 4x4 22re fed emission. 5spd with air/ no turbo.
I have read a lot on this subject but have a question. My truck high idles in 80deg weather at 1800-2000 rpm cold ..... I know the IACV is working as it idles down to normal 750-800 idle when warm. My question is can the IACV be dismantled and the cold Idle adjusted down to a more reasonable 1100-1200rpm range? Or do I have to choke up the 150-200 bills and replace it? Has anyone tried to tear it apart and adjust it? If so did it work?
This is the only problem I have as the the truck runs perfectly.

It's not adjustable. Which style of idle control valve do you have? The throttle body integrated/thermal wax or non-integrated/electrical style?

Its the integrated thermal wax unit. That's mounted under the TB. Thanks for the reply guess I got to break out my wallet and cough up the dough.

I remembered after I posted that the early, electrical designs do have an adjustment. Nonetheless, the thermal wax does not. However, I really don't see a problem with the idle being a bit higher like that. It's not hurting anything. I'd be more concerned if the idle didn't fall back or was erratic.
If it's just more than you want to live with, though, I do know others have replace it with a used part and it was a lot cheaper. Just an option.

Sure thing. Before you replace, though, why not just inspect the throttle body and make sure something else isn't going on. Like dashpot setting, or throttle opener, if you have one?

I have been through the TB and cleaned it. I pulled the dashpot off. And i have no throttle opener. The dashpot was sticking but I kind of like not having it there. so probably leave it off. None of this changed the cold start. I wonder if the IACV needs to be cleaned that may help hmmm.
Ill clean it after i get my new exhaust manifold and exhaust on. thanks for the ideas.

But now I think about it I had a leak at the exhaust manafold to head pipe gasket and have no idea how old the oxy sensor is. Hmm this might cause over fueling while cold? Ill fix the exhaust first and go from there lol!
