dad used to have this s-10 with a 4.3 with 250,000 and it leaked oil bad. we ran everything in that truck. used gear oil sometimes because it didn't leak as fast. would save oil from oil changes on other vehicles to pour in that thing. it never seemed to make any difference to that truck. i use whatever is on sale in my 87, she doesn't seem too picky.

i run just regular dino oil, usually castrol though brand names not always important. Have also used Rotella T as well for a heavier oil on vehicles that use it ( why use additives on worn out motors when you can use thicker oil to try and not burn as mucH ).

Synthetic is a waste of money as far as im concerned.

I'm gonna try me a jug of Delvac the next time I change my oil. My 94 'runner is making all kinds of top-end noise after it warms up, and it dodn't do that before I switched to Mobil 1 synthetic 10w30.

My truck seems to like a little bit thicker oil, so I figure the Delvac ought to fit the bill. Plus, it's cheaper than dirt!

We'll see how she likes it next oil change.

want an argument?
Use engine oil in your 22RE or 3VZE instead of using motor oil.
Now define "engine" and "motor".

this time last year, i put in mobil1 15-50 extended performance.

i was using about 1 quart every 2 months.

in december, i put in amsoil XL10-30 and was using 1 quart a month for two months.

after 2 months, i stopped burning oil.... i havent needed to top it off since early february. i havent burned or leaked a drop.

so as far as im concerned, amsoil is on top of what oil needs to be.

castrol gtx. can usually find it on sale every now and then for 1.99/qt. i can't justify spending 6 bucks a quart for synthetic but i don't want to get the wal-mart special either. gtx seems to fit right in the middle, good quality for good price.

I don't use motor oil. I took a small picture of Chuck Norris and taped it to the dipstick so it sits in the oil pan. The motor is too scared not to run right, even cured that idle problem.

On a serious note I use Royal Purple synthetic in everything except the rear differential, the locker back there likes dino.

i use supertech oil cause its cheep like the budget. When i was working at a dealership they were passing around a sheet of recommended oil by aes techs and supertech was number one.

motor is a machine that converts electricity into a mechanical motion.

engine is a mechanical device that produces some form of output from a given input.

Up here I use 0-30 for the winter, 5-40 for the summer all synthetic and whatever brand is cheaper- and watching the volume of the bottle- L vs qt") Other than that a mechanic friend of mine said that the imports like a lighter oil- using heavier oil just shortens the ringpack life. I think they are all pretty good these days- newer engines use roller lifters- but older ones need that zinc? for the cam wear.

that statement made me nauseous! that poor s10

when i turned 16 and got my first car my grandpa said to use 20w50, especially on older or high mileage vehicles. my dad says if it ain't 20w50 you might as well piss in the filler.

i used to always run 20w50 supertech in everything. then started using mobil 1 15w50, and a quart of lucas in my old '89 s10 with the 4.3. it was good oil, i think. never got thin, never got too burnt (for a 200k mile 4.3 ) anyway

i don't know why, but i think 15w50 and 20w50 is too thich for an import. so i've been using 5w30 in my 'yota. usually mobil 1, unless i'm low on cash when it's time to change the oil, then i'll grab whatever's on sale, and then change the oil again 6-8 weeks later.

i think i'm gonna up it to 10w40 next oil change. the last time i changed my oil (2 weeks ago) it came out a little thin and burnt.

and i NEVER go more than 3k miles on an oil change. i've worked at a dealership changing oil for 2 years now and have seen some sad, sad cars come in. the '07 mazda 3 with 50,000 miles on it and 20,000 miles on an oil change, or one of my favorites.. 11,000 on the first oil change another guy came in with a newer volvo and a 14.95 coupon, he went 15,000 since his last oil change, and about 11,000 the time before that, the oil was burnt to hell, you couldn't see the cross hatch on the dipstick because of all the gunk, i recommended an engine flush, he declined it and got nitrogen in his tires instead!!

Made the switch to Delvac 15w40 today, and it made a HUGE difference in the noise coming out of my engine. I guess my 3VZE don't like Mobil 1 synthetic. That's ok because Delvac is less than half the price of M1, and my runner likes it.

when the truck was new it was always ran with mobil 1 15-50 (always ran thicker because of a sligt valve tick from new )

then switched to rotella t 15-40 for a while it didn't like that at all. so i switched back to mobil 1 and top it with lucas oil stabilizer

I am in love with AMSOIL 10W-30. In the past I tried mobile 1 and I burnt/ leaked a lot. It got dirty fast and I had a lifter tick while I used it. So, I wasn't impressed with Mobile 1. Other than AMSOIL, I liked Castol Syntec better out of the "store brands". Next oil change (15,000 miles from now) I think I will try AMSOIL signature series 0W-30.
