um sir, i take it you are a 4 runner man, thus you are incorrect. i have a 3rd gen PICKUP, you are thinking of a 2nd gen runner. which in my book is incorrect also because the toyota trekker is actually the first gen bodystyle with a sealed box, a first gen(79-85) 4 runner.

oh, and they dont all come stock with 3.4's, they also come with 2.4 and 2.7 liters.

This debate is a little silly since the OP specified 89 to 95 toyota pickups as well as saying third gen.

Wouldnt they actually be 4th gens, considering they were called Hilux until '75. then trucks. so '75-'78, '79-'83, '84-'88, '89-'95.5....But yet. Really. We call them 3rd gens because they are the 3rd gen with 4wd. Trucks didnt get 4wd until '79......

1st gen: 1968-1972
2nd Gen: 1973-1978***** don't know why i put 4.
3rd Gen: First 4WD introduced on the Hilux.. 1979-1983
4th Gen: 1984-1988 (1st gen for 4runners 1984-1989)
5th Gen: 1989-1995 (2nd gen for 4Runners 1990-1995)

Note: This is going by body-Style. The 84-88 had the same body style, just a difference between the 84-85 years and the 86-88 years.

As you can see, the 3rd generation Hilux sold in the north american market was from 1979-1983..

And 91Toyota, he said 3rd gen toyotas
