On the steering relay rod. is this a big deal and needs to be replaced asap or do u think it will be ok for a month?

I keep getting the recall notice in the mail.. I have no intention of taking my truck in. My current steering rod has endured 12 years of abuse. If it hasn't cracked yet, it probably ain't gonna. Plus, I don't want those people working on my truck.
