I saw a wreck here in SA a few days ago where a small car slammed into a vette from behind. From the damage on the small car, it looked like 60-0 in .5 seconds. The vette just had minor body damage... I was suprised nonetheless. The small car was just totaled (Dodge neon or something of the likes I believe)

I as rear ended while driving a GMC Z71 with a factory V-5 hitch reciever by someone in a plastic car. I was amused at the cookie cutter hole in the bumper taht was bent into the hood. The car never hit the truck, but I am glad to see that my 89 toyota truck can sustain the same sort of impact.

I would, but I want something newer that isnt that expansive. If I bought a first gen, I would have the same problems with it as I do my truck now, besides there are never any older toyota pickups here. I would really like to keep it toyota, but I just want something newer, I really want a tacoma double cab, 5-spd, V6, 4WD but they arent that common here, I wouldnt mind a ext cab, but Its just hard to find one that hasnt been driven hard.

Estimate

I finally got an estimate and called the insureance company. It will cost me, well them, $371. All I need is a new bumper and new brackets. I am going to go with a stock toyota bumper. I dont know if I want to install it myself or what. I may just get the place I got my estimate from to install it. But I could pocket the $40 an hour for labor!!!!! I am going to see if they will let me do that!

Not sure where you got your numbers from, but my 87 Runner with 22RE gets in the low to mid 20s for mpg while my Jeep with the 4.0 liter only gets in the 16-18 range. Yes it'll hold more people than a pickup, but they are junk compared to a Toy. Don't get me wrong, I like my Jeep but the only reason I got it was because it was a lot cheaper than another Toy to just use as a daily driver. I had to put a 3" lift to fit the same size tires as fit my wife's 87 Runner stock. I don't get into all the "Anything but Jeep" hype, but they aren't in the same league.

As far as the accident goes, I have a Smittybuilt rear bumper on the wife's Runner. Just after she got the Runner she was backing out of a parking space and didn't see a car behind her. The lady was driving a small car that couldn't be seen below the tail gate and said she didn't even know where the horn was on a car she'd had for 10 years. Needless to say my wife destroyed the lady's drivers door. Not even a scuff in the paint on her rear bumper. My daughter cut a parked car in half with our old 87 Runner. The only reason the Runner was totaled was because she tweaked the right front supsension when she pushed the car up over the curb. Other than that damage all that was needed was a new fender and hood. Didn't even damage the grill. These are tough trucks

Just get 2 floor jacks and put them under each end of the bumper and releive a but of the weight in the rear with the jacks , then have a few of your freinds get in bed and jump lightly while you watch the bumper , increase jumping activity until you see bumper return , LOL , sounds stupid but I did my GMC S-15 like that many years ago after a tweak from a fender bender hehe .
