Hit by a tractor trailer
I just found this forum and am really sorry to read of that man's experience with being hit by a tractor trailer in Canada. Reading about what happened to him made me realize how lucky I was. I wanted to share my experience here.
Back on Jan. 15, 1999, I was hit by a tractor-trailer on black ice on Interstate 78 East Express in New Jersey. At the time I was teaching at St. Peter's College in Jersey City, and they had school that day! I was afraid to miss school (I was a complete idiot!), so I went. The road was very treacherous and once I was on it I could not get off. My car suddenly spun around and I saw a truck coming at me; I thought at first it was a panel truck, but it ended up being a tractor trailer, 78,000 lbs., to be exact. He tried to avoid me but was sliding down the hill himself and I happened to be in the way. He couldn't help hitting me, but it was a terrible crash. My car had $12,000 damage but the insurance company (State Farm) would not total it. The NJ state trooper told me that in another 30 seconds, I would have been hit head-on and not survived. I remember him saying, "I'm really glad I didn't have to call the coroner's van, as you are a young woman", and I will never forget that. I was hit on the right-hand front bumper, then spun back around and the right side of the car crashed into the divider, which thankfully brought the car to a stop. Thank God. I do remember sitting and watching the windshield split before my very eyes. The driver's side door was not touched. I was truly fortunate. I walked away with a stiff neck and sore back and had a headache for a month, but no real damage otherwise, other than PTSD, which still comes back after 12 years. Needless to say, I refuse to travel anywhere when it is icy weather or there is a lot of snow. No matter what anyone says.

Yes, it is absolutely true. I do have photos of the car somewhere, after it was taken to the repair shop and was sitting in the parking lot. This was in 1999. I used a film camera and I have the photos somewhere; will see if I can scan them into the computer and post them here. I also have the police report in case you don't believe me! I can scan that in too.

Wow...simply incredible. I have driven that stretch of highway many times when I was posted in Edmonton either going down to Penhold or Calgary. Not a very friendly place to be especially in a Northern Alberta winter.
I wish you a speedy recovery my friend. Don't ever give up...even with a 3.slow. The prayers and love of your family and friends will see you through this....that and you now have a lot of yotatech friends behind you.
