From what I understand. Cam, headers, exhaust, injectors are the cheapest and most effective way to get power from a 22RE. I have not done any of them except exhaust as of yet, but have been doing alot of reading on the subject as I own a 22R and plan on making it a ripper. If your get rid of the EFI system, please let me know as I would be interested in a purchase... We could trade for my 22R parts!!!! hahaha

to get more n/a power from a 22re get a header, full exhaust, cam, P&P your head, oversized valves, get an electric fan (iv heard tarus fans work good) and you can advance your timing a bit. You could also do a stroker kit, but for that money you could turbo and get more power.

i always thought it would be fun to put a 302/347stroker from a mustang in a 2wd pickup. Honestly i think you should of left out your drifting dream because with this being a primarily 4x4 forum your just getting more and less answers. but honestly if you want to stay with your truck and make it fast save the money for a swap

I spent about $1800 getting my 22RE rebuilt. But it was a full rebuild, and not just an overhaul. The point is you can spend as little or as much as you want re-doing a 22RE. It just depends on how far you want to go.

Expect around $1500 and budget accordingly. If you have money left over, then get yourself a sixpack and pizza and celebrate.
