I cant find the flasher relay on my 95 4runner ahhhhh!

I looked and looked every where inside the driver side compartment by the fuses and in side the fuse box in the engine but no luck.

I bought a replacement flasher relay because both of my front (back work) signal flashers are not working. i also replace the bulbs.

Any ideas where they hid the relay?

TIA
Joe

On the 1st and 2nd gens it's above the drivers side kick panel.
It's round and green, a 3 terminal electronic type, not the standard 2 terminal bi-metal type (although you can replace it w/the 2 term type).

Holy cow!
That's a good question. I looked, expecting it to be on the fuse block like in every other car I've ever seen. It's not. I can't find it either - it sounds like it's up behind the ignition switch somewhere! The FSM shows it in that area too. What a PITA.

Somebody with a working flasher should turn it on while looking for it. They usually make a "tick - click" noise that should lead you right to its location.

I've seen a number of threads looking for the flasher relay and needed the information myself. Found this thread and thought it was worth a bump back up to the collective conscious.

The picture is spot on. The relay is on the left side of the steering column mounted on a tab. Remove the 4 screws and one bolt holding the cover panel below the steering column. Disconnect the hood release and left front speaker wire to free panel. Remove the HVAC tube that crosses under the steering column for easier access to the relay. It would have been super easy to get to if I could have removed the HVAC tubing attached to the vent but I couldn't loosen the upper screw holding it on.

It took a little persuasion to remove the relay off the tab, and one of the latching tabs broke off when I tried to separate the connector from the relay, so be careful. Also, one of the female terminals in the connector was crimped on to the middle spade terminal of the relay really tight,...i almost ruined the connector, again, be careful.

On another forum I read a quip from a former Master Toyota technician saying, "Have fun."

Man I can’t believe what a bitch it was to get to and get out. The parts truck one was really stuck in there. My truck wasn’t as bad but they really buried that sucker in there! Why not put it next to the other fuses? lol
