So I have a 86 toyota pickup mt. A few weeks ago I replaced the clutch, pressure plate, flywheel and bearings. After we got the trans back into the truck we bleed the system a bit. stated it up and went to shift and it wouldn't go into gear. We bleed the system a bit more and I was able to shift into first-fith but it was really hard and no reverse. bleed a but more and then I had reverse but still not a smooth shift. I'm able to move the truck when its in gear but it feels like I'm giving it a lot of gas and I have the clutch petal almost all the way down. I sat and pumped it up for like 2 min and it starts to feel better when I do that but if I leave it for a short while its like the pressure disputes. I don't see any leaks on the system, don't see my clutch pedal bracket moving/bending, push rod all the way out it looks like. Could I of put the clutch in backwards? Would that give me these symptoms? Just need to bleed the system more? Faulty slave or master? When I crack the bleeder on the slave it kinda feels lose in there. I was using a mini vac to work on bleeding it and it like I was sucking in air with a little liquid. Any help its nice was going to drain the clutch system and start over there before I repull the trans.

 

sounds like u have air still in the system, first just open the bleeder screw and use hose on it with end in fluid so it wont pull air in, pump more and make sure to keep top one full,i would try pumping a couple of the reservoir full threw making sure u don't pull air, and use pedal to do it not the vacuum pump.

 

hows your clutch pedal bracket? and try adjusting the rod on the pedal if that fixes it your bracket may be getting wweak and flexing

 

Are all of your fittings tight? You might be drawing air in through one of the unions.

 

Don't see the bracket move when I press the clutch, the push rod looks like it's extended all the way out, and your not talking about the pedal highght adjustment screw right, blake? Only thing that we open any fittings on was the slave, btw my slave is quite rusty.I'll double check the slave.

 

Bleed the ˟˟˟˟ out of it. feels better plus didn't look like I was getting any air bubbles but I was running out of light and working by myself.

 

K so I finally had time to check it again, still has air in the system spent about 30 min bleeding it today.seems like I keep getting air. Working on it by my self, there a good way to bleed a system by your self? I'm pumping the clutch up then using a rod to hold the pedal to the floor while I open the bleeder screw and then closing the bleeder, have a tube going from bleeder to bottle. I retightened the fitting coming into the slave.

 

Found my leak I believe. At the back of the master the seal around the push rod seems to be leaking.replace the hole thing or seal price diff ten bucks.

 

So its been below freezing and snowing so haven't really had much time to work on the truck. I got the new master in. started bleeding and it seems like I haver gotten most of the air out but I can't shift into gear. The push rod on the master should I have it extended to the extream or should I out the pedal at the to of its motion and then attach the push rod? Jusy need to bleed more? Any good ways to bleed by my self ?

 

Bleed by yourself with a vacuum bleed kit from any parts store. Works like a champ.

 

auto parts store also have one person bleeding kits, i used one on my 4runners brakes and it worked really good. i would let the clutch pedal all the way out and just attach it there.

 

So I spent some more time bleeding the system. The clutch feels stiffer then it did before I replaced the master, but I can't seem to beable to get it into gear, still just a ton of air in the system? Should I adjust the push rod? Was able to get it into great like twice but it was like forcing it in more or less.il jerp on bleeding it after I get off work today.

 

see if u can see how much it is moving at the fork. if u are getting good movment then i would say u need to adjust the rod, if not good movment then still air in the system, i had to let my brothers do a gravity feed once for about 3 hrs then bleed it, and i put 3 full resovors of fluid to get it to work, but dont force it too hard my brother also did that on one and ended up bending the fork inside the tranny and cost him another 1300 to fix that.

 

Your talking about the fork the slave is pushing right? Ill se what I can do wish I had an extra pair of hands I'll try and rig up my phone camcorder roi watch it move.also I have a squeaking noise when I'm pumping the clutch thought it was the return spring but it want hooked up at that time. also how many times should I pump before bleeding 10-15 is what I had been doing sometimes more.

 

yes the fork at the slave i think 2 inchs of movement but i might be wrong. well with pumping it that many time u could be causing the air bubbles to break up into smaller ones, i would get a one man bleeder kit.

put the tube on the bleeder screw and open make sure its full and pump it like 4 or 5 times,then close it and then check fluid up top, to make sure not to drain it, then see how it feels try that a couple times.

 

So I grabbed a mini vac to try and get my bleeding done. So I attach the house to the bleeder and pull about 30psi of vacume then I crack open the bleeder and it seems like I get a lot of air bubbles in the cup attached to the pump.the liquid in the bottle turn milky from all the air. Souls like its working or am I doing something wrong just confused how I would have this much air in the system

 

it sounds like it might also be pulling in some air from around the edge of the vacuum. try using a little less vacuum, like 10 or so.
