HVAC control sliders

Does anyone have an image of the HVAC controls out of an '86-'89 4runner?

I finally decided to fix my AC and the first step is to figure out why my temperature slider doesn't work. It appears that it's missing a nut to attach that one control lever.

Here's the lever removed from the threaded screw. Do I just need a nut to put that lever back on?

Also, how the heck does the HVAC come out with the metal support right behind it?

I don't see that part in the parts fiche. You might have to improvise or scavenge it off a wrecker.

Thanks! The images really help see what should be there.

Guess the previous owner tried to rig something up and failed. I ran a new M4 bolt, washers, and nut for now. It works, but to get it tight enough to not wobble causes to much drag.

I'll look next time I go to a wrecking yard.

what's the best way to gain access to the HVAC controls? I'm having the same issue but I can't figure out which dash pieces to remove without taking the entire dash apart.

Also, any ideas on a method to lubricate the temperature slider and the vent/defrost/heat damper control cables?

Thanks!
