ok...so i have a 86 4Runner with automatic hubs and was wondering wat i need to do to put manual hubs on...i also have tha whole front end of wat may be an 86 or so..it has a manual steering box and manual hubs..but anywayz..i have all tha parts i need..i hope..but wat do i have to do to switch them out..

Also if the front end you have is IFS then it is an 86+
all 85 and prior 4x4 trucks had solid front axles.

Unbolt the drive flanges and bolt up the new hubs. It only takes about 20 minutes.

i tried that but tha manual hubs wont go on all tha way..there is like a half inch or so of a gap...

Are the gears all lined up in the hub?

Did you get the parts needed to swap from auto hubs to manual hubs?

Like Jay said turn the gears and line up the splines. There are also two reference holes on the flange between the bolt holes 180 degrees from each other.

yea all thos holes and splines are lined up...i cant figure it out and its pissin me off....aRg!

Just a wild question, are the hubs from a soild axle?

no they are not, they came off of an ifs setup, i dnt kno wat year tho cuz all it is is the frame and diff and steering stuff...

don't know if this matters but are the hubs in Lock or Free position?

they are in the free position...is that where they should be?

Yes, they should be in the "free" setting.
And again, did you buy the required parts to swap from auto hubs to manual hubs?

Yet more incorrect information.

Its not just as simple as unbolting the drive flanges like on the later model trucks/4runners with ADD. ADD is NOT THE SAME as Automatic Hubs. You need to remove the guts from the spindle, then get new jam nuts for the spindle, to be able to fit manual hubs.

The reason they wont seat right is not becuase you dont have them clocked right, or that they are locked or unlocked....you just did not read enough, nor change the correct parts.

- (2) 54mm lock nuts
- (2) Lock washers
- (2) 54mm adjusting nuts
- (2) Thrust washers
- (1) 54mm socket
