How To: Replace Broken fuel injector connectors.
Order the right parts!
Autozone wanted 16.99 per connector, and 2.99 per clip... Needless to say, I didn't order them through Autozone...
www.autopartswarehouse.com
Parts Ordered: AEM Fuel Injector Connector Fuel Injector Connector Price: $10.30 Qty: 2 Part #: A18302020
Sub Total: $20.60 / Shipping: $5.50 / Handling: $0.00 / Tax: $1.89
Core: $0.00 / Total: $27.99
Theres 4 connectors in each box, I ordered 2 boxes, so a total of 8 connectors w/ clips, for 30 bucks, instead of Autozone, 100 bucks for 5
Purchase 18 guage wire, electrical tape, heatshrink tubing (not needed), and some fancy 'wire sleeves' (not 100% needed, but HIGHLY recommended).
Prepare your work station, soldering iron, some solder, needle nose pliers.
Begin by stripping off about 3 or 4 mm of the wire sleeve like this:
Run these 2 wires through the red rubber stopper at the bottom of the connector, I was anal and made sure black was always on the left, and red always on the right.
Pull 2 of the connectors off their tab.
Lay the wire inside the connector, and bend the pins over on one side, then repeat for the other side:
I dont think you need to, but I decided to solder a little... Make sure not to get solder on the connector part that is grooved to fit in the end of the plastic clip part.
Now repeat for the other side of the wire.
it should look like this:
Give a gentle tug on the back of the wires, till they 'click' inside the plastic housing, and is lined up. Push the little red stopper completely into the plastic housing (if you didn't already)
Make sure it fits on a fuel injector:
Now because I had so many freakin issues with my connectors, I decided to go overboard, and securely tape the wires together, and to the housing:
Now slide the sleeve over the connector, and give it a small amount of electrical tape to secure it:
And if your anal like me, slide some heat shrink tubing over the sleeve/housing area, and give it a tap with a lighter flame to make it fit in place.
Now repeat this 3 more times! or 4 if your planning on redoing the cold start injector too.
Later tonight I will replace the wiring all the way up to the firewall, and will post that in a comment here.

is it okay if I add that not all fuel injectors have the clip you're speaking of?
(if you want a pic, I'll get you one of the one-piece connectors without wire locking clip on my 91 22re cali pickup)

Well some good news and pissy news, I was up till 1am last night working on the truck, replacing all the nasty wiring in the harness, and some connectors.
Good news: The fuel injector connectors fit some of the other connectors under the hood. The new connectors work awesome, no more issues of the fuel injector connectors just sliding off, or the wire inside slipping out.
Pissy news: Found that the toyota dealership had super glued a connector to my fuel injector... took me an hour to carefully chissell the plastic off so I could put a new connector on it.

Yeah definately... This 'guide' was just for my specific year truck, i know the newer 4runners have a completely different type of connector for the fuel injectors (saw one in the bone yard and checked it out).

This thread with pics in another forum may help.
The last time the OP was active on this site was way back in 2009 so getting the original pics may be unlikely.
