Selling...well not really...but every time I fill up the tank I think I want my motorcycle back...But come one...who wouldn't want a sporty black and chrome bike that gets 40+ mpg even when you ride the throttle hard.

On a random note- that was officially my third vehicle that would set off car alarms when I drove by. The first being my 72 FJ-40.

I made the decision when I started my build that this truck would not be sold. Trucks are not investments; if you are building one, you should never think 'Yabut, I'll never get my money out of it'. Of course you won't. Even if you do nothing you won't. It is a depreciating asset. Mods are like rent, not investments. Think of mod money as the admission price to an amusement park. You are buying a fun time.

That said, I've bought what must be a whole lotta fun waiting to happen! I went through the list of mods and kinda shuddered.

I could not afford to sell it, because as soon as I did I'd want to either go with a 4-door JK- the closest thing to the original 4Runner (which would require blocks of money just to make it as reliable as my Runner) or I'd want an early 2000's 4 door Taco and instantly SAS it, plus x and y and z and.... I would never generate enough funds from the sale to do that. If I never wanted to retire, I suppose I could do that... but instead I've made sure I have really good insurance in case the worst happens.

Truth is, the truck is almost exactly built to the mental picture I had when I bought it. More so in some ways. The frame has 197K miles on it... so what? If I keep after any rust and don't pull a moron move and roll it again it should last to 500K. It is in as good condition as I make it. How could I part with the lovely Chili when it has been so faithful?

As bought:

Close to done, but there is always something more...

I think about it often, but at times, my truck gives me a look and I can't see myself doing it. I would be selling it for roughly the same year 4runner though. I couldn't bring myself to doing it though until it was running satisfactory for myself.

The main reason one would sell their truck is to buy something newer and more technologically advanced right? I like retro, I like the fact that I'm driving a fossil. People are too quick to jump on the latest advancement in anything, when what they're using is working just fine.

If it isn't broken don't fix it. If it is broken.........visit the salvage yard.

Driving an old truck in that's in great shape or at least running condition, is a statement.

I don't know what that statement is.

I'll keep it til it dies, or I can't afford to keep it living.

"how often (if ever) do you think about selling your truck?"

Everytime I see aTurbo Diesel BJ 74 or Turbo Diesel 80 Series LC drive by I think of selling my 4runner. But my 4runner has been so good to me that I just go have a cold shower to empty my self of those thoughts...

Cheers

I don't know what that statement is.

It is also one thing to be driving an old rig that is in great shape it or a beatup rig that's obviously used for trails or just a regular POS which would scream I love my classic rig,I'm a regular on the trails or I can't afford anything else.

I don't know what the future holds for my Runner but I think it would be cool to be driving it in another 10 years and it be in still the shape it's in now. I've got about another year to pay it off and buy a cheapie, good MPG car for my DD and keep the miles off the 4Runner.

Not likely! My little esposa and I are rigging it up to drag behind the RV when we retire. It will probably see most of North America before we die - then I will leave it for my Son.

I've thought about selling my '89 and replacing it with an '84 or '85. But, I figured I'll just keep it and save up for an '84 or '85. Sure, it's hard to save up while I'm throwing money at all the other toys, but it'll happen .

Every time I buy another toy, it's always a few years older than the previous one. And I usually don't get around to selling em... Usually they die spectacularly, more often than not nearly taking me with em! But I'm still here, living to bring another toy to it's destruction.

I'm planning the death of this '84 right now. There's this really nice 81 that I've got my eye on

I just got divorced and am thinking of selling my 90 extra cab now. 31k (yes, that's 31,000) original miles, I'm the second owner. I stuck some 31" bfg's and tacoma alloys on it, and have a good used arb with ipf lights and a warn 8k winch I haven't installed. 3.0/auto, head gasket and steering linkage recalls were done. $400 kenwood deck and infinity 3 way dash speakers recently installed. Husky liners floor mats, new remote for the winch. Color matched canopy original to the truck and/or a wildernest canopy are available. Some clear coat issues in spots, but a VERY clean truck over all. What do you guys think the yotatech value would be on that?

.... yeah.... literally, all my summers for these last couple years since i have owned it, i just dump dollar bills into it, not to mention most of my free time. Yeah, but like, my only problem with selling it, is that i have put so much friggin time into it, its stupid, so i can't justify it. On that, if i had like a couple grand laying around, and a couple weeks paid off work... i could probably just get it done, and be happier then if i had bought a new vehicle. xD

I would kick myself hard if I ever sold my truck.

I still remember buying it. It was 2 1/2 years ago. I got it for a steal,
at $2500 bucks. It was worth about $2k more than that. Between lift
tires exhaust and various other modifications, I have made up the difference.
I've cussed and kicked it, I've devoted sleepless nights, and it's always
returned the favor on the highways and on the trails. No matter what the
situation, I've never had a doubt that it would get me back home. I've never
been embarrassed to offer rides to people in it, no matter how mud covered
or noisy it is, because I know its a solid machine and wouldn't trade my truck
for their Mercedez Benz any day, because you can't a price on what I spent
my $2500 bucks on....

I feel the same about the not being embarrassed to offer rides to people regardless of how muddy/noisy it is!
