Question How Much Would You Pay For...?

An older pickup (T100 or Tacoma), any eighties model I guess, with no engine or tranny? Cause I'm gettin the hankerin to find me a pickup, swap everything outta my 4Runner, cut off the bed, and make me a flatbed, and make me a matching snorkle and exhast pipes comin up out the back makin it look like dual smoke stacks

So anyhoo, if you were just lookin for an older taco with just the body, how much would you expect to pay for it?

tacoma started in 95.5 and for the t100s think they started in 93 ..... could find a mid 80s pickup pretty cheap depends on what kind of shape its in

T100 is still $$$, mine was 7k (althoughit was in pristine shape and has a new 50k engine init) but they regularly go for 5k with running gear, so 2k wouldnt be far off if it was in nice shape.

A mid 80 or early 90 would be cheap and efficent for the swap.. should be able to take everythign the runner has as well.

Wouldn't it be cheaper...but mabey not easier, to just remove the rear end of your 4Runner? I've seen guys box in the cab of 4Runners to turn them into pickups.

Oh really? Never heard of anyone boxin off their runner. Got any links for that kind of thing? Lol and w/e the name is of the older p/u's... But yeah 5k is much more than i was hoping for. Not wanting anything glamorous, just a body w/o engine, aint even gotta be in all that good of condition seein as how I want to herculine the cab and whatnot...

But yeah, definitely would like all the stuff from my runner to bolt right up ya know?

See, this is basically what I wanted to do:

And that'd be alot easier to do by just removing the bed off a pickup, rather than makin my runner into that:

84-88 is more like it. i paid 1100 for the one in my avatar, it was locked, on newish 33s and running and had minimal rust. i painted it rattle can black. personally id try to trade the 4runner for someones, that is similar to yours.

but you can run into issues dealing w/ the wiring harness. i sure as hell did.

there was a recent thread on here about cutting the back off a newer runner with a permanant cap, and making it a p/u.

Its probably cheaper to just go out and find a mat 80's p/u with a rusty bed, and rip it off yourself. you could probably get one for very little. I know I've seen some listed in the classifieds here (Maine) for as little as $500 that had minor issues, or as low as $1000 that were drivable with minor body rust.

You should easily be able to find an '84-88 for that. Most of the beds of 2nd gen pickups are rusted away to nothing anyway, mine included.

The real question is:

Which would be easier:

1. Buy pickup and using the pickup bed mounted to your frontend of the runner-to make a pick up.

2. Switch everything out.

I think I would go with the more unique approach if the runnersfrontend and such was in good shape.

Well, it's not that I want the bed, will live fine w/o one till I make my flatbed (more of an aesthetic thing), but that I want the enclosed cab of a pickup.

Then I think your single best bet instead of switching out everything is o just enclose your runner's frontend. Perhaps come up witha remoavle window or softwindow like a soft top has. This way it can be removed and you can have more fun.

Or you could enclose it totally with some metal and fabbing. getting a rusted out pickup and using its front end shouldnt to be hard either with some welding, materials and time. Then you can have your flatbed..
