How many miles do you have on your 3.0?
How many miles can be expected out of a 3.0? I have a 94 approaching 280,000. With proper upkeep and routine maintenance what kind of miles can I expect to squeeze out of my 3.0? How many miles do you have?

My 92 3.0 had about 140k when the headgasket blew.
My 88 3.0 had about 206k when the headgasket blew.
With 280k, the headgasket has definitely been done through its recall ( a local Toyota dealer can tell you the date, mileage and where it was serviced ) and to be honest, its probably been done twice now.
They're not bad motors, and with the technology we have today, the headgasket issue can be solved, but its not worth it since the 3.4 is basically a bolt on ( again, with today's technology )
Itll last as long as it feels like. The 3.0 is a ticking time bomb unless you've done the bulletproof mods to it ( ARP head studs, MLS headgaskets, and headers )

227,000 and running strong. In your case, I would be hesitant. Even toyota engines have a life. Bearings will wear out, metal fatigues, so on and so forth. I would drive it like you stole it and replace parts as necessary, who is to say what will go first?

280k is nothing for these engines. I have ~ 685,000 (1.1 million kms for you metric folks) miles on mine. Finally ate a headgasket a couple weeks ago. After it burns all the coolent out of the dead cylinder, it still pulls like a champ . This poor truck has been nothing but abused for the 22 years I've owned it. Toyota oil filters and Mobil One Synthetic (5w-30, 0w-30 during the winter months) oil are all I've used, and it still gets 18-19 MPG, 4.88 gears and 31's currently.

My '94 has 196,000, and runs like it just rolled off the factory floor. No oil consumption, excellent compression and oil pressure, easily passes emissions, etc. As far as I can find out, Toyota has no record of doing the head gasket, nor do they show that the HG service campaign is outstanding on it. I think it may have been manufactured late enough such that the HG service campaign did not apply.
It could last another 200K, or quit tomorrow, but that's pretty much true of any 20-year-old engine with 200,000 miles. Currently it runs well enough that I'm not afraid to take it on long trips or into semi-remote areas. I figure it will get me home one way or another. Worst case, I have long legs and I like to hike!:-)

225,000. no rust. HG was done in 99 and not sure if its been done since. I just did the timing belt and everything looks good. Although the coil cooler was clogged.

to the OP, mine's at 240k. no headgasket done. of sat a couple years in the desert, and I put in new gas, new oil, and new plugs. started right up and runs smooth. I love the truck and, to me, it's irreplaceable.<br />

however, no way I'd buy one at 280k unless I had a swap lined up, or the price was under $2k. At the right price, though, and rust-free chassis and body I'd say go for it.

I put 250,00 on my 94 T100 3.0 ....got 219,00 on my 93 3.0 currently...wifes 3.4 went 223,000 when the head gasket went...swapped in a 90,000 mile motor and shes runnin great

Don't have a swap lined up, the guy I bought it from replaced a lot of the parts before I bought it. Truck starts fine, idles fun, runs and drives good, shifts smooth. Hard to tell it has 280xxx on it.

My 95 3.0 is at 253,445. It has had a HG done two years ago, I'm unsure of the mileage because I didn't own it then. It runs strong, but uses a little oil.

My buddy who works on Toyotas swears by the 22re (which everyone does), but he said the 3.0 gets a bad rep. If taken care of and HG and other maintenance is done to them they are just as good as the 22re...well at least not far behind.
