How important is the TPS?

I've been having a very frequent intermittent power loss/ lean fuel issue. Near as I can tell its either fuel related to electrical or just an electrical issue. I thought it might be the TPS, which looked like it was probably the original unit. I ran through the FSM test and it failed. Got an Autozone Duralast replacement, that turned out to be DOA. Then got one from OReillys and spent half an hour trying to get it tuned in right. Got it as close as I could and put it back together. It's not perfect, but close enough I think. Also, after I put the new TPS on, it really dropped my idle speed, now its sitting at around 400, and now for some reason I can hear the PAIR valve kicking in a whole lot more as well.

However, when I was having the issue before changing the TPS, I decided to just disconnect the TPS due to what I had read from some other threads here on yotatech, and the intermittent issue never came up. After I changed the TPS, it was good for the evening but the next morning on the way to work the intermittent issue came back again.

So my next theory on the list of things is maybe I have short or a bad wire somewhere in between then TPS and the ECU, or a bad ECU. I plan on pulling the connectors and doing a bunch of continuity and wiggle testing hopefully this weekend if I get time, but I was wondering if anyone else might have any other ideas.

Make sure you Grounds are clean and tight .

The one for the ECU can be quite finicky at times going into the aluminum manifold

Fuses loose in sockets can cause this type of thing as well

Has the Check engine light come on at any time ??

Good idea, thanks for the advice. Those items never even crossed my mind, except for the CLE. I forgot to mention there haven't been any CEL codes coming up for this issue either.

Im having the same issue. '93 22re pickup, it has had these symptoms before and was fixed with a new ecu temp sender. it never throws a code and the symptoms are erratic at best. currently i put a new denso tps in. the truck runs fine from a cold start, but when i drive it again and its warm/hot, it bog down then randomly have power. if i can get it to come up in rpm's "above 3500" it will work fine for a while. if i disconnect the tps it dose not have any issues but will throw a code 41.
