in the front of the shifter, under the thunb button, is a little blade slot hole that lets you bull out a flat plastic thing that holds the button in place. Then teh two phillips head screws at the base of the plastic section allow you to move the shifter itself. Dont forget to run the wires back through the shifter before you put it all back together and be careful putting the sliding shift hole covers back in they are delicate.

I think that when you remove that flat retainer "plate (?)"
Then you can take the top button out, then you can do the next stage that leads to getting the button out. I dont remember all the steps, but that little release thingy is the key.

take the two screws out of the shifter, pop the flat slot out of the front of the shifter and the top button will pop out. then you will have access to the back of the od button. pop the od button out and feed yourself some slack wire to make things easier to work with the switch. the backside of the button has a white flat retainer piece of plastic. i used a small flat screwdriver to carefully pry the piece out of the button without breaking the grey plastic around it. when you get it loose be careful not to loose the two screws inside of the switch. one of them is tiny. once you get all of that apart, pull the contact out of the switch and you can feed it through the shifter and pull the handle off.
