Post How Do I...? Help ASAP.

i just picked up a 3rd brake light from the roof of a 90+ pick-up and i want to install it on my 91 4Runner. i was told that the 90/91 came with the wires for the 3rd brake lights but were never offerd as an option. same thing with the upper rear speakers by the cargo lamps, wires are there but never an option till 92+.?

So does anybody know what the scoop is with wires? i know that i am going to have to move the wiper motor over a little bit and drill one hole for the wires and 3 more holes for the screws. is there anything i should be be worried about? the sooner i get answers the sooner i get it installed and get pics up, so please any info will help.

I was going to do the same thing, using a LED 3'rd from a GM Safari (lower profile). My intention was just to grab the 12v+ wire at the drivers side brake bulb and pigtail it off there. LEDs draw very little power. I think you'll be fine with the same setup.

well i had a look at the bulb from the 3rd brake light and it is different to any other bulb. it is bigger than the 194 used in the clearance lights but smaller than the 1156 used in reverse/indicators.

and i ripped the panel out today and there are no wires going up to where the brake light goes. but they gave me 5' of the wires with the brake light so i'm going to have to run it down and tie into the brake lights but i got two wires with the brake light and i am confused. what are the wires for?
green with white stripe and white with black stripe.

My '94 4Runner has an orange plug below the wiper motor trim for the 3rd brake light.

I've never seen an European 2nd Gen 4Runner with stock 3rd brake light but the plug is here, I put an aftermarket one (Inside the trunk, bolted to the plastic piece) and it works OK.

uh well as far as i know on the pickups anyway it wasnt offered until 94 because it wasnt required until 94. I dont know about the 4runners but I dont think theres gunna be wires there.

i check and didnt see any, so i pulled out the taillights, followed the 2 wires from the brake light into the cargo area(pulled the side panel) and cut off a small section of coating, wrapped the 3rd brake light wires to the brake wires and it works! with an LED, so now i just have to punch 3 holes for the mounts and 1 big hole for the wires/gromet and mount it. i'll try and mount it tonight.

I think I have a thread of an XM satellite radio install. I routed my antenna through the 3rd brake light, and I have a pic from the inside with the wiper motor. I'll look.

Here's my thread. It's not quite what you are doing, but I did remove the 3rd brake light, and there are some decent pics of that area, and it shows how it is mounted.
