How to adjust e brake line?

How to adjust e brake line?

1990 22re

How do I adjust the e brake? I get about 13 clicks before it bottoms out and I can no longer pull it but it doesn't seem to really slow down the vehicle much. At slow speeds or holding it on a slight incline it's fine but for an actual emergency it won't do much. I want to be able to lock up the rear wheels with them. I'm assuming there's slack in the line. How do I tighten it up?

If it makes any difference, I noticed that my drum brakes were way out of alignment, so I adjusted the star dial until the brake shoes were just about touching the drums. It seemed to help but still not to the level I want it at. On another note, is it possible to back off the brake shoes with the star dial without taking off the drums? I think I adjusted the shoes too close to the drum and now I can't the drum.

Backing of brakes is done with two tools one to hold the locking arm off the adjuster the other to turn the adjuster.

It takes a little time to get the feel of doing this but once you do it is pretty easy at least for me.

If you want that kind of performance out of your E brake

Even with all new brake parts both the service brakes and emergency brake I doubt you will get that kind of response .

13 clicks sounds about correct for adjustment.

In any case the adjustment is at the Intermediate lever most often in front of the fuel tank .

Parking and adjusting the rear brakes is what this is designed for.

This is a truck not a light weight car.

Get your curb weight down to that of a Celica you can lock your rear wheels to your hearts content

Haha this is my first old truck so I was expecting the e brake to like in my car

Actually, locking the rear wheels shouldn't be that difficult if the bed is empty; there isn't a lot of weight over the rear wheels then. Don't experiment with this at speed, though. A vehicle with the rear wheels locked wants to spin around!

I have never been able to lock my rear wheels up on concrete or black top .

Last Time I tried that I broke the cable.

Well I just checked the e brake cable for slack and it's hard as a rock, drums are meaty and properly adjusted so I guess it's as good as it will get!
