well....my horn on my 89 4runner didn't work..so i decided to add a set of air horns to get rid of that dinky little thing they give you from the factory, so anyway i get to hooking it up, then put on the last connection to the relay and BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP.....horn blasts my eardrums out, so started to look into it a little bit, come to find out the horn is always hot, like the button in the steering wheel is stuck

...is this something that is common ? anyone else have a similar experience to help ease my troubleshooting ?

 

sounds like u got the wiring mixed up did u use a relay ?

 

not sure what truck, but on mine the horn has constant 12v and the other side is grounded via the steering wheel. Could you tell us how you wired it?

 

wired it thru the provided relay......i am pretty sure i screwed up if it is supposed to be hot all the time and the ground is provided by hitting the horn, i'm gonna try just using jumpers from the old connector to the compressor tomorrow....i couldn't find the old manual to check if one side was hot all the time

Sometimes a relay will have a N.O. (normally open), and a N.C. (normally closed) contacts, you should be on the N.O side.

 

all it gave for the relay was some shoddy instructions and directions that make no sense at all, i'll take a look at it when i'm a little less tired and its a little less wet out
