Question Hooked jumper cables up wrong, now it wont start

92 P/U Deluxe v6 4x4

So I was running late to work and realized I left my headlights on (need buzzer) and my battery was dead. My roommate offered to jump me but his battery was buried and in my haste I connected to his battery backwards. After an obviously failed attempt to start mine I found my mistake. After a correction it still wouldn't start so I ran out and just bought a new battery (stupid) which didn't help and now I'm stuck.

I still haven't been able to check fuses/relays yet so that'll be my first priority but I just wanted to see if anyone on here has ever experienced this issue before all the guess and check work gets going.

The headlights work but turning the key doesn't yield anything, not even a click. Banged on the starter a bit but that did nothing.

Thank you!

Looks like it's probably that 80A fuse next to the battery... now to figure out how it comes out, yup broke a couple pieces of the fuse off... anyone?

I don't know if it is the same on your rig but on my 98 I had to take the bottom part of the fuse box off to get the fuse out. The fuse is held in there by two little bolts one on each side of the fuse. I'm guessing that yours is probably similar because you said you already broke part of the fuse. Its really kind of a pain in the a**. I hope this helps.

80A fuse is secured with fasteners.

Standard procedure is to hook (+) to (+), (-) to (-), then start the vehicle you are "jumping" from, the try to start the vehicle being "jumped".
If the cables are wrong, you would get a nice warning spark as soon as you try to connect the cables, before keys were on and fuses would be blown.

So, how does one manage to hook up jumper cables backwards ... and then manage to blow fuses?
