Hitch for a 1992 Runner

I need a hitch for my Runner but I do not know if there are different versions... some for trucks that have the spare under the bumber and others have the spare mounted on the gate? My model year is 1992.

A good hitch wont be in the way for either. If you have a MTM, you can run a class III for 5000 lbs, if its the A340H auto, only a class II or 3500 lbs.

Probably because its made for both AT and MT, but your rig is onyl rated for 3500 lbs. This is because of the hydraulic transfer case (A340H). The hydraulic transfer case shifter moves in a "Z" pattern, while the transfer case shifter that moves in a "U" (A340F) pattern is good for 5000lbs.

By the way ALL the aftermarket hitches I have seen require you to drill the mounting holes through the frame, and you will need to find or make a wiring harness adapter for the 4runner, cause the lights blink differantly than previous, and succeedding years.

I have a Draw Tite hitch that needs a new home. I replaced my hitch with a new bumper. The Draw Tite used the stock mounting holes on my '90 truck. I never used it for a trailer, only a motor cycle carrier. So, I never bothered with a wiring harness.

the brackets look like mine and the shape looks like it is made for the spare location.
