high RPM hesitation

Background: my fan/alternator belt broke the other day on the way to work in the morning. noticed right away. drove it around a bit on just battery power for a few miles. cool day most at night, got pretty warm but stayed just out of the red for about 5mins.

Just put new belt on and re-tightened all of them. no skweeks.

Present: Just drove for the first time over 50mph. first time in 5th gear.

right about 2100rpms on ACCELERATION only it starts "bumping, coughing?, hesitating?, missing?, ......? the harder I accelerate the worse it gets.....?

slow easy acceleration it's okay. down shifting spiking the rpms does just fine.

seams just an acceleration thing? WHATS GOING ON? i'm guessing timing issue?

Check all the ususal suspects? plug wires on tight? everything hooked up?
Sometimes its a simple overlooked think related to recent work.

last time I had that problem it was because I had put e3 spark plugs in my motor, did not like it one bit. went back to the old plugs, ran fine, put new plugs of same brand etc in ran fine. Check your plugs.

I doubt it was related to the belt change though. But since you were working in there also make sure all of your plug wires are tight, maybe you loosened one up when undoing the alternator somehow.

EDIT: DANG HighLux beat me to the plug wires. lol.

Hmmm........sounds suspiciously like a fuel pump/delivery issue. Just a possibility....

..... nobody went timing huh? maybe the heat changed something? heat fouled spark plugs were going to be my second guess.... fuel pump didn't think about that. CRAAP, let's hope it's spark plugs and worst case fuel filter.....

Maybe it's just "timing".....bahahaha! Okay, bad pun.

Check the easiest, first, I suppose.

Oh. Any idea of mileage? Approx? Aver.? Nevertheless, the thing could be older than dirt, for all you know. Hmmm.....maybe time for a new pump. Can you test fuel pressure in any way?

Good thing it's a first gen....whew!

I would replace the fuel filter, and would also consider replacing the fuel pump, chances are that its the original pump with a lot of miles on it.
