hey guys,

been thinking about this for a while now that its gotten cold. Is there anyway to wire up a high idle switch on our trucks? something that bumps the RPM's up just a bit to get it warm on a cold morning. also could be used for wheeling. What do yall think? could there be a way to tap into the cruise control wiring? is there an easier way to do it?

all you need to do is find a way to let some air get around the throttle plate. a 1/4" or 3/8 ball valve or petcock mounted somewhere in the cab and some vacuum hose and fittings should do it.

tee into the intake duct somewhere between the air-flow meter and the throttle, maybe even between the PAIR resonator chamber and it's duct from the air-flow meter. run hose up to the valve, run hose from the valve back and tee into the PCV hose. when you want to raise the idle, open the valve, when you want to lower it, close it.
I think trying to actuate the cruise servo is going to be more difficult.
If you have air conditioning, you might be able to trip the idle-up vsv.

 

IIRC there is a thread on here somewhere where a guy just got a 10 speed bicycle shifter and mounted it to his shift stick and ran the wire to the same bracket that the cruise uses to control throttle on the throttle body...
that way he had adjustable throttle that was perfect for airing up his tires or his air tank...
