High idle only when motor is cool

Just bought an 88 toyota pickup with the 3.0 v6. It idles to about 1500-2000 rpm till the truck gets realy warm. Like doesn't go down for about 15 min. Then its fine till I let it sit awhile. What should I start looking at? I cleaned the TB already. And it does it even when upper 60's outside. Does not seem normal, especially when its an auto and you try and leave the driveway and it slams into gear.

Start by checking the usual culprits - tps set correctly and ok, afm ok, clean afm, check the dashpot to see if it is "sticking". 4crawler's website has good instructions to check the electrical function of the tps and afm, so does the factory service manual. Have you checked the engine trouble codes? Try that as well. Start with these items, 90% of the time it is one of them. If you have any questions or need help, pm me. I just went through all of this to cure engine idle problems myself and now mine is like new.

Oh for crying out loud...are you serious?

Perfectly normal behavior for this particular engine(or any engine for that matter).

Good grief gdavis67...remind me not to ask you for help. Much less pm you for it. Not that I ever would anyway...never have needed to ask for any help fixing my rig...never will.

He's just a D-Bag! I own and built 1 10 sec mustang and anther 11 sec mustang that I tune myself. If you can't ask for help from someone that knows more than you, then you will never win. I bet he is one of those guys that always says he has something fast but never races it. Lets get back to the topic. It does this for almost 15min no matter what temp outside. It's not normal. Who has to wait 15min to drive there car everyday. Cause I have to or else the tranny will bang into reverse to hard for my liking.
