HIgh Idle issues (I know I know)

New here as you can probably tell, and new to toyota's Mainly owned jeeps and what not. I bought a 93 4 runner about two or three weeks ago.

The 4 runner in question is a 93, V6 3.0 , 5 speed. head gaskets replaced about 30k ago, collant is consistant in the radiator and oil is fine.

The issue is when hot, I come to a stop and the idle will be about 1100 to 1500 depending. If I blip the throttle it will drop to 900 or so.

I checked for vaccum leaks lastnight none
I noticed the dashpot was hanging a little bit, I could simply touch the throttle and it would drop to 900 +/-, I adjusted it so the tach would read 850, drove it around the block some and it was working fine (returning back to idle of 850), Took it for a nice long drive to SF lastnight and now it idles at 1500 to 2k unless i blip the throttle then it drops to 850 +/-.

It almost seems like the engine collant sensor is bad, or the Dashpot is bad.

Am I on the right track thinking that it could be one of those two items?

Could it be something else, like a TPS or O2?

I have searched and read just about every article and thread on the board by searching this morning.

Any help would be appreciated, I am going to check the Collant sensor and TPS tonight, Any thing else I can check?

have you cleaned your throttle body if carbon buildup is bad enough like it was on my brothers expy it will keep the butterfly in the throttle body from going to normal best way to clean them is get an old tooth brush and carb cleaner and scurb it good even both sides of the butterfly in the TB and like abe said it could be your cable sticking spray them with some silicone spray really good

Sprayed it down with Carb cleaner last night, and inspected it for any build up, But do not scrub it. I will take a better look tonight and inspect the throttle cable as well..

Thanks for the replys.. hopefully it will be a simple fix. I am also going to venture around pick and pull today to see if I can find a used TB so I can have spare and use to help diagnose any issues. (I am a visual person so sometimes I need to look at something in order to get ideas.)

Did the full diagnostics on every thing,

TPS, Cold start valve, Coolant temp sender, infared tested the radiator temp etc.

Checked the Dash Pot, Found it to not respond when plugged, So I backed the screw out so it wasnt hitting the throttle, and she has been idling at 850 to 900 for the past week or so.. Took her on a really long drive through the mountains and back, idled great and feels a bit stronger then before..
