help with truck pulling

Hey all - i'm having some trouble w/my truck - its a '91 SR5 ext. cab 4x4 3.0 5spd... the other morning i took off from a stop kind of hard, heard a loud crack/pop type noise but just thought it to be something creaking from the extreme cold that we have been having. since that morning i've noticed that when i accelerate, worst in 1st, slightly less in 2nd, less in 3rd and not noticable in 4th or 5th that the truck is torquing quite a bit to the right and feels like the rear end is "dog-tracking". i can feel the body twisting/torquing quite a bit to the right, even as i just barely let go of the clutch, as i let of the gas the body flattens and everything settles. if i have it in 4wd all of this is barely noticable. once i'm at whatever desired speed in 2wheel or 4wd i have no symptoms, no noises no pulling etc...

i did some preliminary visual checks, tire pressures all set at 30, checked stablizer links, shocks look ok - torsion bars, rear leaf springs.. all appear ok.

any ideas?

thanks in advance!!

maybe a drum brake broke inside and it is draggin at slow speeds? Could be part of the ebrake? shots in the darks, but it sounds like a broken spring.

sounds like your rear end is binding up. The crack could of been the dif, brakes, anything back there.

The torq'ing is your motor turning the driveshaft but instead of the energy being release to both rear wheels its stopping at the diff rolling the body.

Think of it as a screwdriver driving in a screw, if the screw moves, the screwdriver just stays upright in your hand.. if the screw sticks, your hand and the screw driver torque opposite the screw.

....

you can pull the ebrake and give the truck some gas and you'll get the same body roll effect.

I'd put the rearend on jackstands and tranny in neutral, spin the tires, 'feel' for stuff... then dig in further.

could you have broken a transmission mount? get under and kick on it to see if it moves independently from the chassis

transmission mount is new - i replaced it when i put my clutch in last year, but will check it too. i was thinking something with the rear diff or the rear axle - i.e. only putting power to one of the wheels. also explains why it virtually goes away when i'm in 4wd - gives power to the front which balances it out. i still feel it slightly in 4wd, its just not nearly as pronounced... i will have it checked out at work on saturday (work in service depart and will put up on a lift) and will post back what i found... guess its time to start looking for that e-locker....

ok - so i got the truck up in the air when i was at work. noticed right away that the rear axle was hanging lower on the right side. started checking the leaf springs out for a crack and found my problem... my stupid lift blocks are broken. well both sides are cracked but the front half of the right side is gone! the previous owner had installed the lift blocks and cranked up the torsion bars. i've been wanting to remove them anyway, so guess now i have a reason... thanks all for ur help
