Help. Tps issues 88 3vze
I recently bought an 88 4runner with a 3.0 5sp. It sits on 38.5 tsl's and is clean, inside and out. This is my 2nd 88 but the previous one had a 22re. My 84 has 22r so this 3.0 is new territory for me. My problem is that I cannot get the Tps adjusted properly. I've been a long time fan of yt and read quite a bit on here.
I have set the throttle stop screw accordingly and positioned the sensor just on infinite with a 0.030 feeler gauge between the stop screw and throttle plate. That part is easy. My problem is that I cannot get the vta - e2 reading between 200-800. I'm at 114. I don't hit 200 until roughly 1/4 throttle. I figured this as indicative enough to swap to a new Tps. Unfortunately I'm getting similar readings. Once it warms up you have to feather the throttle but it will climb to 4500 rpm and sounds rather clean. Once the rims are up I can go up and down without any problems. Idles around 500 with very slow throttle response. I can't locate any vacuum leaks using carb cleaner.
FYI. No smoke, the oil is clean as well as the coolant. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Idle should be 850 +/- 50

From the reading I've done the tps has to be functioning properly to get the jumper idle change. When I apply the jumper, nothing changes. I may be misinterpreting this?

I have never noticed an idle change on mine, but that's just my rig.

ksti isn't alone; I don't get the idle change either. I suspect that it is temperature dependent; at some point we'll all get the idle change, but the absence of the change doesn't tell us much.
x2 on the timing; even if you actually had a problem with the TPS you're just wasting time trying to tune something by ear. Get a timing light; they're only $20.

I will check the cel. I honestly haven't looked. Ive got a timing light, but was trying to stay in order with the fsm. I will check this and respond back. Thanks for the insight!
Regardless, I am still only getting 114 ohms between vta and e2 at both closed throttle and with a 0.20" feeler. This should not be impacted by timing, as it is tested with the vehicle off. Correct?

The symptoms of a bad TPS are poor throttle response and poor idle.

Sorry for he delay guys, I thought I posted yesterday but apparently it didn't save. Anyhow, I have acquired another tps with similar readings. I am having trouble finding verification of 0.47-6.1 for the 88 3vze. All of the tps stickies show 200-800. However, I did try to adjust the timing and no, the cel did not flash when plugged in. I did adjust the timing and had it lined out at 900 rpm. Had a slight miss but ran pretty good with quick throttle response. I was pumped.... Then I realized the tps was not plugged in. Plugged it in and back to 300 rpm with the jumper removed. Hmmmm.

Well, If the cel won't flash then the jumper is not plugged in properly (use a paper clip) or a remote possibility bulb is burned out.
Your timing is probably still not right as a result.
You need to get the timing set properly so you can adjust idle.
Maybe a couple of pics (close ups) of the jumper plugged in or a video.

That got her goin! The paper clip must have been coated. A piece of wire did the trick. As soon as my clutch hose comes in ill be able to take a ride. Thanks for the help.
