help with tires

Rear third swap was a peice of cake, took 2 hours with breaks.

Front diff was a pain for us, mustve been since it was in the pouring rain!

i have one more question. if i went with the 4.56s would 33s work with a 2inch lift and still have power? or will it be slow?

dude, i have 4.56 and 31's and that is fine with the 5-speed. actually the 4runners with 31's, a 5-speed and a v-6 came with them. you can fit 33/10.50's with no lift you just have to trim a little bit on the bumper plastic and tap in a couple fender welds. the 32/11.50 should fit with no mods. there are plenty of guys that have done it.

i was just wondering if i would have any power with 33s and 4.56s or would it be slow?

Okay, i thought the toyotas with the v6 and 31's came with 4.56 gearing, and the trucks with smaller tires came with 4.10's. Are you sure you have 4.30 gearing??? are p225/75r15 tires equivalent to 31's?

the p225/75-15 are like a 28.28" tire

22.5 x .75 x .3937=6.643" sidewall

6.643 x 2 = 13.28" both sidewalls, top of wheel and bottom of wheel
13.28 + 15 (rim) = 28.28" tall.

22.5 x .3937=8.8" wide

Check your spare tire, if you have a 31" spare and the lever for the spare tire hoist goes off in the drivers side direction, the truck was designed for a 31" tire and probably has the 4.56 gearing (manual trans). if the lever goes straight in, it is for the 225/75r15

well i am pretty sure i followed the instructions up above for finding the axle code and stuff and all my numbers showed i had 4.30 gearing

then she was designed for a 225/75-15. you can put the 31's on there w/o worrying about rubbing but your speedo will be off a bit unless you regear it and you will lose a bit of power. with my 4.56 gears i think they are just about right with my 31's. if was to put on 33's (which i want to do someday) i would put 4.88's or 5.29's on it.

just to clarify, it's 4wd right?

yep 4wd 5 speed. well it says in the toyota owners manual that i can put 31s on there so that is still an option. i was thinkin about swappin the differentials and i know i want bigger that 31s so i was lookin at 32s or 33s and i was wonderin if 33s would just blow with 4.56s or would it be decent

33's i don't think would be bad with 4.56s, but if your going to do it go to 4.88s, get your money's worth. if you do 33's you are going to want leveling coils and no wider than 10.50 with stock rims and you won't have much rubbing. like i said before, you have to trim a little bumper plastic and beat a couple welds on the fenders back a bit but they will fit basically with no major modifications.

well if i do put 33s on i would put a 2inch lift on so that should hopeflly keep it from rubbing but i agree i should do the 4.88s if i swap them. well see i'll have to see about money cause i have to change my timin belt and that could pay for my differentials haha and i'm still in a dilemma whether i should just put 31s on cause i have 215000 miles but i also want it to look good soo bigger tires would be the ticket

you wouldnt notice hardly any power difference!
i think 33" tires and 4:56 gears = stock gearing so it should b close to the same!

actually, 4.56 came standard on 4runners with the factory 31" tires, 5-speed and v-6. my speedo is spot on with the 31's and 4.56 gears. 4.88s would work out to being factory gearing with 33" tires.

it could be wrong though. but anyhow 4:56's and 4:88's are close to the same any way so it probably doesnt matter much!

4.56s and 33s will be ok. you'll be better off wiht 4.88s but they tend to be harder to find. i ran 4.56's and 35x12.50 for over a year, there was a HUGE improvement when i went to 5.29s, but it was liveable. i have a 4.56 IFS front and rear diff for sale. but shipping would be a PITA

but stock no, i believe 4.56 was only on v6 5sp with 31s from the factory.

well i can get the 4.88s so thats not the problem they are just 200 bones more than 4.56s but 32s and 4.56s should work fine?
