Help with shift bushing collar installation

I have been struggling with something for days that should have been an easy repair. I removed my shift collar and replaced the bushing that was ground to pieces.

I cant get the collar to do the 1/4 turn to lock it back down. Takes all my strength to push it down and it just wont turn! Im using screwdrivers, pliers etc

Anyone have any tips or tricks for this?

Im about ready to cut the spring down to makes this easier cause I cant think of anything else to do...

Everything clean and lubed with something Like CRC or Kroil ??

No burrs or rough spots .

Makes it much easier !! Turning the correct way ??

After all this time given a choice I turn things the wrong way !!

I liked the older style that had the 4 bolts .

thanks, ya.. had the same thought, cleaned it good, tried assembly lube, lithium grease etc. Still cant turn the damn thing.

Funny thing is I just got done rebuilding my 3vze and installed it with trans in the truck. That was far easier than this flipping collar! haha its been the biggest struggle on my truck thus far! which is just silly.

I broke down and found a tool...

That would seem to make the job so much easier.
