Help replacing rear wheel bearing?

I need some help replacing rear wheel bearing on my 88 4runner.

I bought the bearing and the seal but now I think I need a new snap ring and a retainer. I can't find these at the auto parts store.

Can some give me some instructions besides diagrams? I have a press I can use, so getting the bearing out is no problem.

Thanks

The snap ring is a dealer item I think. The retainer is available from rockauto.com, but you may as well get it from the dealer too.

BTW, that bearing and retainer is tougher than it looks to get off.

The FSM doesn't call for a new retainer. It does say to use a new snap ring, though. You should be able to find a snap ring that size at an auto parts store. I know my local NAPA has them. The hardware store in town has them too. The kind that have the holes work just as good, IMO. Way easier to get on/off. I just realized that one is thicker than a regular one though isn't it? Oops, well you may need to go to the dealer then.

I'm getting ready to order some bearings from rockauto.com. They show some that come with the retainer and some that don't. They also sell just the bearing retainer, like he says.

Our NAPA bearing came with the retainer.

It was not easy to accomplish in the driveway without a press.

you can get the bearings pressed on pretty easy with a press but getting them out takes a used axle housing modified or the $200 Special Service Tool

Or you can bang the hell out of the axle on teh ground but that method sucks =)

my mechanic will unpress and press new bearings on for $40 an axle.
