Help removing the chunk

OK, 1995, V6 sr5 4WD.

I have all the bolts undone......the ABS sensor out, and I still can't get the thing out.....

Is there a secret to this....?

I can get the passenger side to pull out a little bit, but it seems stuck on the drivers side of the chunk....it doesn't want to move at all......

so what can I do? whack it with a hammer?

work it back and forth?

help!

By chunk do you mean the differential, or the axle assembly? If you mean the differential, then you need to pull out you axles about 4-5 inches in order for the differential to come out.

Axles are out already......should be nothing to hold it in unless it has been hit with Locktite at some point....

And yes, I mean the differential....

Is there RTV around it or a paper gasket? Might just need some gentle persuasion if it was RTV'd.

Is the seal broken? If not then take a razor blade and cut between the diff and the axle housing.

mine had some rust/dried salt around a couple of the studs and wouldn't come free without a little persuasion...

Mine was corroded on there pretty well too. I had to beat, chisel, beat and chisel some more to break it free.

As for gasket, I used black Permatex on it and it hasn't leaked a drop.

I usually just put a jack under the pinion and go up lightly on the jack untill the seal breaks. Makes it super easy
