i got a 94 xcab and it runs great tell i get it wet. i do a lot of mudding with it and for about the first 6 months i had it everything was great but now evertime i hit a lil water it drops dead. after that i cant start it without pushin it first.

not sure where to start on fixing this one any ideas?

 

What exactly happens when it wont start? DOes it turn over but not run? Not turn over at all?

I had the same problem. Hit a water hole it would stall out, and refire after a few minutes. Sometimes when it rained and sat for a while it wouldnt start.

What I did was got a water bottle, ran the engine, and sprayed the water until the engine stalled. I found the ignitor to be the culprit. Took it apart, and realized it was leaking and shorting out the internal components. I cleaned everything up, resealed it with sillicone, and never had another problem.

 

Good stuff Adam F, have you ever lifted the hood and ran the engine in the dark. Bad wires/electrical issue sometime become clear in poor light. You can also take the garden hose and like AdamF said see if the little "gotcha" will show its face.

 

well after it gets wet it stalls after that when i turn the key it all sounds good it just wont compleatly turn... i just tried the running in the dark think it all looked good but who knows i will take some watter to it in the morn thanks hope it will work.

 

ok i took a hose to it and i couldn't get it to do anything. then i got in the cab and hit the gas and it droped dead. any ideas?

 

stalled? quit running or missed out bady? What about plug wires, plugs, Distrib?

 

ok i got it. ignitor is shorting when i reached up and touched it i got shocked. so thanks for the help im going to take it apart try to clean it up and see what happens

 

any tips i should know before taking it apart?
