HELP: mystery stalls/no starts - ICM?
Long long time, no post. Figured it was worth a shot.
1993 4x4 Xtra Cab Pickup SR5 3VZ. Swapped 5VZ from a 2000 4Runner. 450,000km on the chassis, around 250,000km on the engine.
I've been having an issue where my engine just cuts right out at seemingly random times while I'm driving, usually I can turn the key off and then start it back up again while I'm still rolling. This happens intermittently and doesn't seem to be fuel related as hills and acceleration are not consistent problems.
Also, on random days I am unable to start my truck at all often after a quick start and stall. The starter will turn but the engine won't fire.
Fuel pump has been tested and runs perfectly fine, plugs are good, wires are good, battery is brand new. Swap was done at a shop 5 years ago, have 50,000km or so on it since.
I'm thinking it might be an issue with the ignition control module? If so, it's an easy swap but an expensive part if new and genuine Toyota. There are some knockoffs on RockAuto for $75-175 or I could go to a wrecker. Are 5VZ and 3VZ ICMs interchangeable?
Thanks for any help.
