Help me with this diagram, what timing cover do I have?? 86 Runner 22re

Truck/engine is an 86 22re. Not exactly sure if I have the cover with an "air pump" or not, as Im not even sure what exactly that is. I am somewhat of a novice to toyotas.

Trying to figure this out so I can price out an order of what bolts to get.

Thanks in advance.

Air pump will be installed if you have an air conditioning system.

I'm sure you can figure it out from here....

The air pump is an emissions thing and you will be able to see it, it is belt driven and on the lower passenger side of the engine

You got it.

I stand corrected, guess that pump is for the emissions system. (and quite the setup for it only being an emissions item!)

Air pumps "may" be found on the carb'd engines- i.e. : 20R, and very few 22R. It was replaced by the PAIR system- "pulse air injection reaction" system and used exhaust pulses and reed valves to suck air into the exhaust instead of a pump and diverter valves to push air in.

If it's injected, i.e.: 22RE... there's no pump.

This may not be exactly what you are talking about but this will show the different timing covers and what to look for. Just thought I would post to show others what took me a little bit to discover.

Copied
I got my Timing Chain on and had to replace the Timing Cover due to it being worn. I tried to use a early model 22r and they wont interchange. Thought I would put some info up to help others identify what they may have.

22r has no dimples/circles and the number "2" on it. Twistedyota got it right on the height thing, see the last picture for a good example. I also tried to mark which bolt holes for removing the timing cover on down the road when I have to do a chain again. Hope it wont burn off but it if does I tried to come up with an easier way. Never can remember which bolts they are.

22re has "6k" and dimples/circles.

Here is what I am talking about on the 1/8th inch height. I used a lockwasher to help show how much of a difference. This cover is 22r. Seems like the oil pump bolts were to short. Hope this will save some one some trouble. It is an early model 22r timing cover on a newer 22re block.

I'd have to double check, but from memory cleaning up my cover Im almost certain it has no dimples, yet it came off an early 22re so I'll have to give it a looksie.

Now I just need to find someone willing to sell me all the bolts I need to get this thing back together. Trying to avoid going to the dealer or toyotapartseast.com
